MY COURSEWORK
At UD, I have had the opportunity to take many different types of classes. Most of these classes have been business oriented fashion classes while other have been design oriented. Some of my favorite classes that I have taken at the University of Delaware have been FASH210, FASH333, FASH330, BUAD301 and ENGL301.
FASH210 - Seminar on Fashion & Sustainability
Seminar of fashion & sustainability is an introduction to emerging cannon of theory and practice regarding sustainability as it relates to fashion. Centered on four components of sustainability and social responsibility: labor, environment, consumption and body image. Through this course, I learned the importance of sustainability in our environment and in the fashion industry. It has made me more conscious of how we should be making our clothes and it has inspired me to follow these practices.
FASH330 - Merchandise Planning
Merchandise planning focuses on computer applications related to mathematical concepts and calculations used in developing merchandise budgets. I understood how spreadsheets are used to develop merchandise plans for sales, inventories, markdowns, shrinkage, receipts, open-to-buy and gross margin. This class has taught me the basics for merchandising or buying. I enjoy math and retail math, which made me very interested in the class.
FASH333 - Fashion Forecasting and Design
Fashion forecasting and design is an introduction to trend research, analysis, and translation to original textile and apparel collections targeting varied consumer markets. This class has taught me that I have a creative mind. It has taught me how to use Adobe Suite and my skills for basic graphic design. It has also taught me that I love to forecast and predict what will be in style in the upcoming seasons based on what is happening in society today. Overall, this is one of my favorite classes that I have taken at UD because it has pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me realize something about myself that I was not confident in.
ENGL301 - Fashion Writing For The Web
Fashion writing for the web is an introductory class on fashion journalism. It explains the different types of news platforms, social media accounts and magazines. This class taught me how to write for a professional news platform. It has made me realize the importance of journalism and news platforms in the world. I enjoyed this class because I love to write and it has helped me expand my knowledge of journalism to use in the future for my personal blog.
BUAD301 - Introduction to Marketing
Introduction to marketing explains the management of the marketing functions, marketing research, product planning, distribution channels, pricing, personal selling, and advertising. It emphasizes on the consumer and industrial markets of the world. I really enjoyed this class because it helped me understand how companies advertise themselves and their products. It also taught me which marketing tools are received by audiences well and how others are not. Overall, I liked learning how basic marketing tools are used in society.
